Nice Lane in Newport Beach was less than pleasant early Monday, when residents spotted a suspicious-looking car that police said contained two vehicle burglary suspects.

Residents watched the black BMW enter a private garage in the 200 block about 6:30 a.m. and called police.

Police arrived and arrested Anna Jean Giss of Mission Viejo and Justin Davis Markin of Huntington Beach, both 31 years old.

The pair is allegedly responsible for several vehicle burglaries in the Newport Beach and Costa Mesa areas and had loot from area burglaries in their car at the time of the arrest, police said.

Giss also had methamphetamine and was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance.

Markin was arrested on suspicion of receiving known stolen property, police said.

Both were booked into Newport Beach Jail.

Giss was being held in lieu of $45,000 bail, according to Orange County Sheriff’s Department records.

Markin was being held on a $20,000 bond, according to police.

On jail records, Giss listed her profession as “vet tech,” likely a reference to veterinary technician, and Markin as “graphic designer.”
