Crash sends BMW into living room of Costa Mesa home; DUI suspected

A woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after her BMW crashed into the living room of a Costa Mesa home, police said.

Laura Kate Stackhouse, 31, of Costa Mesa was arrested Saturday after officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Begonia Avenue just after 1 a.m., the Costa Mesa Police Department said.

The crash caused major damage to the home and the vehicle, said police spokeswoman Roxi Fyad.

The residents were evacuated and were staying with neighbors until the structure could be evaluated, police said.

The driver, who suffered a broken leg, was extricated from the car by Costa Mesa Fire & Rescue workers, police said. Her passenger also was extricated but was uninjured, police said.

Stackhouse was taken for treatment at a hospital, where she was cited, police said.
