A man wounded in a shooting by Fountain Valley police on Saturday morning is a 34-year-old Westminster resident, according to Westminster police.

Matthew Earl Snoyman was arrested after a man in a black Dodge pickup drove at Fountain Valley officers investigating a fatal crash that had occurred hours earlier at Magnolia Street and Mint Avenue, police said.

The man then turned around and drove at the officers a second time, and that’s when police shot at him at around 5:15 a.m., authorities said.

The man fled but was stopped by officers at Bushard Street in Westminster, just south of Edinger Avenue, police said.

Snoyman was arrested and taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, authorities said.

The crash that officers were investigating killed a Fountain Valley woman late Friday.

Melanie Barlow, 25, was declared dead at the scene along Magnolia Street around 11:35 p.m., Fountain Valley police Sgt. Kham Vang said Monday.

According to initial reports, Barlow was driving a Toyota sedan when the driver of a Lexus jumped the median and hit her vehicle. The identity of the Lexus driver was not immediately available.
