Sandcastle builders give it a royal effort in Corona del Mar contest

Given that Corona del Mar is Spanish for Crown of the Sea, the Newport Beach neighborhood would seem to be a fitting site for a sandcastle contest.

And so it was on Sunday as teams of sand sculptors flocked to Corona del Mar State Beach for the 57th annual sandcastle contest presented by the Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce.
