B.W. COOK -- The Look

Even with the vast merchandising of clothes through major retailers,

there is still a niche for the small boutique run by the individual with

a definitive eye for fashion and a loyal customer base.

One such place is B. Magness Fashion, located in the Newport North

Center at MacArthur Boulevard and Bison Avenue. The woman in charge of

this Newport Beach boutique is the gal with her name on the door, Barbara

Magness. She has been in business for the past 12 years, originally

coming to the region with her husband Jay from Durango, Colo.

Magness says that her specialty is “better ladies contemporary

clothing, accessories and shoes.”

The retailer has become very active in Newport social circles and is

slated to lead the local group known as the Sophisticates of ATSC next

season. Magness’ friend and customer Nancy Olson of Newport Beach

volunteered to model Spring and Summer fashions from B. Magness for The

Look.

CUTLINES

1. Nancy Olson looks very smart in this matching ensemble by &

Trousers consisting of a short red jacket ($228) and matching jean-style

pants ($154). Her black camisole is by City Lights ($49) and the

rhinestone “Harley” belt sells for $110.

2. Showing off this green-colored, snake print-inspired halter top by

Paolo Santini ($158) worn with matching ankle-length pants ($229), Olson

is ready to go out on the town.

3. This waffle-patterned, lime-colored vest by Alberto Makali ($149)

is worn with matching silk ankle-length pants ($129). Olson shows off a

B. Magness sterling silver necklace ($89).

4. A flowered knee-length dress made of silk ($385) by Mandalay is

worn with a very trendy short denim jacket by Buffalo ($78).

5. Ticci Tonetto designs this light blue leather bustier with a

built-in lace bra ($235). Olson wears pants and a top that have leather

fronts and lycra backs ($265). The silk blouse is by Dina Bar-el ($205)

and comes in red with a light blue leaf print design.

6. This soft purple snake print dress by Joseph Ribkoff features

spaghetti straps and an asymmetrical hemline ($238).The dress comes with

a matching scarf.
