CdM outshoots Newport girls

Corona del Mar High outshot Newport Harbor, 224-284, in a nonleague

match Tuesday at Newport Beach Country club.

The Sea Kings were paced by medalist Katie McKitterick with a

3-under 38. Courtney Wright shot 43. Jonna Kim and Jessica Milner

shot 47 and Kelly Kwata finished up with a 49.

Corona del Mar and Newport Harbor will match up again Thursday at

Big Canyon Country Club at 3 p.m.

Sailors improve to 6-0

* FIELD HOCKEY: Newport Harbor High (6-0) kept their perfect

record intact as the Sailors shut out Louisville, 2-0, Tuesday at

Moorpark College. The Sailors took 10 shots on goal and had five

penalty corners.

Junior Robin Ibbetson scored the first goal receiving assists from

Lara Schilling and Rachel Foster. Danica Kalmbach scored the second

goal on an assist from Ibbetson. Goalkeeper Jessica Pizarek had two

saves to remain unscored upon for the year.

The Sailors’ next game will be on Thursday at 3 p.m. against

Bonita at Newport Harbor.

CdM dominates

* TENNIS: Corona del Mar High knocked off visiting Woodbridge,

15-3, in a nonleague girls tennis match Tuesday.

Ali Walters swept all three of her singles sets. Haley and Miranda

Young won their two doubles sets, only losing two games. The twins

are 4-0 this season.

The Sea Kings (2-0) host Troy on Thursday 3:15 p.m.

Tooma tallies five

* WATER POLO: Julian Tooma came up big with five goals as the Sage

Hill School boys water polo team edged Costa Mesa, 9-7, in a

nonleague game on Tuesday at Corona del Mar High. Jordan Cline and

Chris Mazzo added two goals each and Danny Harold made 12 saves in

goal for Sage Hill.

Kunert leads Estancia

* WATER POLO: The Estancia High boys water polo team defeated

Pacifica, 12-7, on Tuesday its season opener at Costa Mesa High. Chad

Kunert led the way with five goals and Danny Alderete added four

goals. Goalkeeper Brock McDonald made six saves for Estancia, which

moved to 1-0.

* TENNIS: Newport Harbor High claimed all nine doubles sets

Tuesday afternoon en route to a 15-3 victory over host Sunny Hills.

Senior Melissa Chinn and sophomore Alex McIntosh teamed to win all 18

games without a loss.

The Sailors (2-0) will be at home against Northwood Thursday at 3

p.m.

Estancia edges Edison

* GOLF: Bridgett Gleason had a 3-over-par 39 to lead the Estancia

High girls golf team to a 226-234 victory over Edison on Tuesday at

Mile Square Golf Course.

Lina You was just a shot behind with a 40, Lauren Donner and

Lauren Cushing each shot a 48 and Carolyn Clements finished with a

51. Estancia, which moved to 2-0 this season, competes in a three-way

match with Edison and Oxford Academy on Thursday.

Lightning dropped

* TENNIS: Sage Hill School fell to Division I Laguna Beach, 11-7,

Tuesday at Laguna Beach High. The Lightning (1-1) had the advantage

in singles, 6-3, but the deeper Breakers dominated doubles play.

Ashley Adams won two of her three matches and nearly won her

third, falling 7-6 to Claire Rietsch.

Oilers top Sea Kings

* VOLLEYBALL: Corona del Mar High’s girls volleyball team lost

Tuesday on the road at Huntington Beach, 3-1. CdM won the first game,

25-15, but fell in the next three, 12-25, 15-25, 14-25.

CdM’s Marisa Scott had 43 digs. Kasey Kipp scored 13 kills. Kipp

and Juliane Piggot tied for the team lead with four blocks and Brooke

Terry came through with nine assists.

The loss drops CdM at 0-2. The Sea Kings will be in action at the

Dave Mohrs tournament this weekend.

11 assists, 2.3 digs and 1.6 kills per game for the Lions.
