The Ocean View High baseball team capped a winning week by posting a pair of victories over Santa Ana and Long Beach Millikan.

The Seahawks made a success of their Golden West League opener by shutting down Santa Ana, 6-2. They capitalized on several Santa Ana errors to open up a 6-0 lead. The Saints scored twice in the top of the sixth inning before Scott Baxter settled down to post a complete-game victory.

It was the first varsity league win for the sophomore.

Ocean View stepped out of league play to face Millikan in Long Beach, and the Seahawks prevailed, 4-3, to improve to 7-2.

Senior James Kang pitched a complete game, striking out seven without giving up a walk.

Ocean View was outhit, 10-7, but got key hits from Kang, Jason Walker, Sean Burleson and Chris Katsuki.

Walker went two for four with a double and an RBI. Kang, Burleson and Katsuki each had RBI singles.

“We’re throwing strikes, and that’s keeping us in every game,” Ocean View Coach Shane Borowski said. “I’d like to wake up the bats a bit to give us a little breathing room in these games, but however a win comes, I’ll take it.

“As long as we keep working hard and strive to get better each day, I think the hits will start coming. Let’s hope we’re saving them all [the hits] for league.”
