The family and friends of Costa Mesa resident Bill Thomas, who suffered a rare spinal stroke in January, are hosting “Road to Recovery,” a fundraiser from 6 to 10 p.m. today in the Harborside Grand Ballroom at the Balboa Pavilion, 400 Main St., Newport Beach.

Proceeds from a garage sale held in February helped pay for Thomas to be moved to Atlanta’s Shepherd Center, a catastrophic-care hospital specializing in spinal cord injuries where his rehabilitation is ongoing, and the medical bills continue to mount.
