Submit proposals for memorial sculpture

The City of Newport Beach 1/1 Memorial Committee encourages public artists not to miss out on the opportunity to submit proposals for a new memorial sculpture. The deadline for design submissions is June 9.

The memorial will honor the 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Division (called “1/1”), which was adopted by the city in 2003. It will be placed at Ensign View Park on Cliff Drive in Newport Beach.

The memorial is intended to recognize the heroism of the battalion’s troops in Iraq, collectively memorialize those who have died in combat, and acknowledge the special relationship between the city and this unit of Marines.

Any public artist who is 21 or older may submit proposals for the creation of a sculpture.
