Beautification Award nominees sought

Candidates are being sought for the Beautification Awards, a tradition founded by the Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce’s Beautification Council. Winners will be announced in January. The committee looks for landscape, architectural and environmental designs that contribute to the charm and beauty of Laguna Beach.

Categories are:

 Residential

 Commercial

 Public Spaces

Photos and a 100-word or fewer description, including the owner’s name and address, are due Oct. 31. Photos will not be returned. Submissions should be mailed to the Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce, 357 Glenneyre St., Laguna Beach, CA 92651 or e-mailed to Michelle Clark at mclark4@wm.com.

Neighborhood association hosts picnic

The Top of the World Neighborhood Assn. will hold its annual Neighborhood Picnic from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Alta Laguna Park. You do not need to be a member to enjoy this “meet your neighbor” pot luck.

Parade officers and theme chosen

The Laguna Beach Patriots Day Parade Assn. has elected Michael Lyons to be president of the 44th parade March 6. Charles Quilter was elected vice president; Sandi Werthe, treasurer; and Nina Rietsch, secretary.

The association also selected “Freedom’s Legacy” as the theme.

The association seeks nominations of worthy Lagunans to be its Citizen or Citizens of the Year or its Honored Patriot. Submissions should be sent to michael.lyons@unx.uci.edu.

Boutique Benefit’s clothing drive is Sept. 26

Boutique Benefit’s autumn clothing drive will be from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Legion Hall, 384 Legion St. Donations are tax deductible.

Quality clothes and accessories for women, men and children as well as décor items may be dropped off. They will be stored for the fourth annual Boutique Benefit May 1. Proceeds go to the Laguna Relief and Resource Center.

Businesses can register now for Taste of Laguna

The Taste of Laguna & Community Expo, sponsored by the Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce, takes place from 5 to 10 p.m. Oct. 8, in the upper level of the Glenneyre Street parking structure. The annual event is an opportunity for businesses to showcase their products and support the community.

Admission is $10.
