ZeroTrash Laguna’s “1st Saturday” cleanup has a new location in North Laguna.

The UPS Store, 668 N. Coast Hwy., will now welcome volunteers with refreshments and outfit them with tees, trash-pickers and bags.

Owner Mark Meisberger said he was inspired to join the effort when he saw what ZT founder, Chip McDermott, and his volunteers were doing at local schools to help clean up the community.

“I’m happy to adopt an area that they didn’t have covered,” he said. “I hope our location will build the turnout of volunteers and make it a bigger event. It’s a really great thing they’re doing.”

The next cleanup will be held from 10 a.m. to noon June 5.

McDermott recently hosted the third annual Senior Day Street Cleanup at Laguna Beach High School, where he educated the senior class about recycling and led them on a four-route street and beach cleanup of the surrounding areas.

The event was one effort of many for ZeroTrash to teach local students about environmental responsibility and caring for their community.
