Allergy and sinusitis lecture

Dr. Robert Pettis of Mission Hospital Laguna Beach will give a free presentation on allergies and sinusitis from 1 to 2:30 p.m. June 25 at the Susi Q Senior Center, 380 Third St.

Pettis will discuss allergic rhinitis; common local allergens; ways to prevent and control allergen exposure in the home and local environment; treatment for allergies including homeopathic, herbal, and medical; and symptoms and treatments of sinusitis. For more information, call (949) 497-2441.

Discussion groups to meet

The Susi Q Senior Center offers a variety of regular discussion groups:

Laguna Beach Freethinkers Discussion Group meets from 3 to 4 p.m. every Friday. An open discussion group that emphasizes the positive aspects and advantages of open-mindedness. Discussion topics will be suggested by attendees.

The monthly Braille Institute offers a support meeting from 1 to 3 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month. The topic for June is “Getting fit and staying active.”

Coffee Talk is from 10 to 11 a.m. the second and fourth Mondays. A free support group led by Laguna residents and facilitator Kathleen Wenger, LMFT, and co-facilitator Debbie Seitz, MA.

Participants will be offered a supportive atmosphere where frustrations, coping skills, and helping tips can be shared. Participants at the biweekly meeting will use the suggested topics as a starting point for discussions on issues of interest to all. Participants will offer emotional support, practical information and tips on how to cope. For more information, call (949) 497-2441.

Alzheimer’s Caregiving group meets from noon to 1:30 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month. Participants will discuss how to recognize the early signs of Alzheimer’s and dementia and share strategies with dealing with loved ones who are affected by the disease. Facilitator is Vic Mazmanian, Alzheimer Assn. volunteer and support group leader. A fee is charged. For more information, call (949) 497-2441.

Medicare and insurance issues counseling is offered from noon to 2:15 p.m. the fourth Monday of the month. The Council on Aging, Orange County HICAP Program, provides free one-on-one counseling and advocacy with Medicare and related insurance coverage in the Wellness Room at the Susi Q Senior Center. Health directive discussion set

Local attorney R. Lee Andersen will discuss Advance Health Care Directives and Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment from 1 to 2 p.m. June 24 at the Susi Q.

Basic computer assistance offered

A computer lab led by Marianna Spoelder will be from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. every Thursday at the Susi Q.

The lab provides basic computer assistance for individuals who want to learn how to use a PC with a Microsoft XP Operating System. Includes the basics of word processing, e-mail, digital photo and Internet. Cost is $10 per session.

Ballroom dancing classes held

Candi Davis will teach ballroom dancing from 2 to 3 p.m. every Monday at the Susi Q Senior Center, 380 Third St.

Both singles and couples are welcome to participate. Cost is $5 per session.

Ping pong games at Susi Q

Seniors are welcome to participate in table top tennis, or ping pong, from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the multipurpose room. Bring your own paddle or use one of ours. Participants must wear non-skidding shoes. Free. To register, call (949) 497-2441.
