Trolleys to start rolling

Laguna’s free summer trolleys will start serving the public on June 25, which is opening day for the Sawdust and Art-A-Fair Festivals, according to Assistant City Manager John Pietig. Free parking in the Forest Avenue/Laguna Canyon Road lot will end Monday.

The ACT V parking lot, 1900 Laguna Canyon Road, will open June 25, at $7 per entry, or frequent users can obtain a summer parking pass at the Recreation Department at City Hall. Residents with Shoppers parking permits may use the ACT V lot at no charge. The parking lot at Mission Hospital Laguna Beach will also begin operating that day.

Trolleys will be seen in town beginning Tuesday, when the Sawdust holds its preview party. The Forest Avenue/Laguna Canyon Road parking lot will begin charging $10 per entry on Tuesday. The ACT V lot will be staffed beginning at 4 p.m. that day.

Trolleys will not be running on Thursday, when Laguna Beach High School will hold its graduation at the Irvine Bowl. Graduation is at 8 p.m., and attendees may park at ACT V, which will not be staffed.

Relay for Life meeting is July 8

Organizers of teams for the 2010 Relay For Life in Laguna Beach will hold their first team meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m. July 8 at the Crystal Cove Clubhouse. To find the clubhouse, turn onto Reef Point from the Coast Highway and go one mile. The clubhouse is next to the tennis courts. For more information, call Lauren at (949) 357-8617.

Green Belt/Blue Belt Tour set

La Vida Laguna is partnering with Hortense Miller Gardens for a Saturday morning Green Belt/Blue Belt Tour in Laguna Beach at 8:30 a.m. June 26. The tour includes kayaking the kelp beds, visiting Seal Rock, and then touring the Miller Gardens. The tour is about three hours, and includes lunch. La Vida Laguna hopes to offer the tour monthly, said founder Billy Fried.

The tour begins at Boat Canyon, with a brief orientation before the kayaking trip to Laguna’s restored kelp beds. Then after a brief tour of some tide pools, the group will hike to the Hortense Miller home and gardens.

Transportation will be provided for those who don’t want to walk. Cost is $125, with a one-time 20% “locals” discount of $99.
