Police identify woman found in pool

Authorities have identified Rocio Godoy of Huntington Beach as the woman found dead Tuesday in the pool of a Newport Beach couple’s home.

Godoy, 38, was house-sitting for Jim Driscoll and Jane Buchan, a married couple who, according to property records, live in the 1800 block of Tahuna Terrace, a residential block in Corona del Mar south of Coast Highway.

Driscoll, a track and field coach for Corona del Mar High School and Buchan, the chief executive for Irvine-based Pacific Alternative Asset Management Co., were out of town and unavailable for comment Wednesday.

About 8 a.m. Tuesday, construction workers next door noticed Godoy’s undressed body floating in the pool and called police.

Her death appears accidental but police continue to investigate pending a cause of death from the coroner’s office, said Sgt. Steve Burdette.

The last time friends or family had spoken with Godoy was Saturday night, police said. Officials believe she may have died sometime that night while swimming in the couple’s pool.

An autopsy performed Tuesday was inconclusive and investigators will perform a toxicology test to see if any drugs or alcohol were in her bloodstream. It takes six to eight weeks to get results.

Godoy was staying at the home alone, Burdette said.
