Mary Josephine Scott passed away peacefully July 18, 2010, in her home at Irvine Cove Laguna, California. She was surrounded by those who truly loved her most.

She was an icon of the Newport area and a classic beauty. “One of the most extraordinary and remarkable people I have ever met.” She enriched everyone’s lives with her unique ability to see beauty and accentuated only the positive.

Born Nov. 29, 1911, in Marteniana, Italy, daughter of Gina Theresa and Petro Garsino. She migrated with her mother and sister aboard the vessel Dante Alighieri on Aug. 9, 1919, and joined her father in Russelton, Pa. She married Leon Miles in Chicago, divorced and joined her sister Esther Bono in California in 1939, and she married Finley G. Scott on June 22, 1947. They lived in San Marino and enjoyed gardening. They moved to Irvine Cove Laguna in 1963. She belonged to the Newport Country Club and was passionate about golf.

She is preceded in death by her sister, Esther Bono, husband Finley G. Scott (Scotty), nephew John Ubardelli and grandnephew John Ubardelli Jr.

She is survived by her nephew Eugene Bono; grandnephew John Bono; grandnieces Jannell Furrer, Sherry Menze, Joni Ubardelli and Gloria Ubardelli; great nephews Clinton Furrer, Micheal Furrer and Jonathan Bono; great nieces Stacy Ubardelli, Tammy Ubardelli, Charlotte Menze; and great-great niece Sage Furrer.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Michael Hospice.

A graveside memorial is at 11 a.m. July 24, 2010, for family and close friends at Pacific View Memorial Park & Mortuary, Sunset Court in Newport Beach.
