Fashion can’t slouch at this event

Last year’s first installment of Fashion’s Night Out, an effort to jump-start a sagging industry with an evening full of shopping events in major cities all over the world brought to the masses by New York-based Vogue magazine and the Council of Fashion Designers of America, was, not surprisingly, very Manhattan-centric.

For the sophomore effort Friday, Southern California is fielding a slate of highly organized, “Vogue-sanctioned” events, stretching from Newport Beach to Pasadena.

Newport’s event is centered at Fashion Island. Lo Bosworth, who starred in “The Hills” on MTV, will kick the night off with a meet-and-great with fans and the announcement of a winner in an online raffle.

“I am thrilled to be a part of Fashion’s Night Out at Fashion Island,” Bosworth, creator of the Lo Down lifestyle blog, said in a news release. “I am looking forward to the styling session because I love fashion and helping others experiment with new looks and trends. Plus, I always enjoy meeting my fans, especially those from my hometown.”

The event, which takes place from 5 to 9 p.m., will also feature sweets stations and live deejays throughout the center, in-store events and a tote bag giveaway.

According to the news release, “The first 1,000 shoppers to visit the concierge desk in Atrium Court with a receipt from any purchase made at a participating Fashion Night Out retailer during the event will receive a limited edition Fashion Island tote bag.”

More than 30 merchants plan to host in-store activities, such as fall fashion presentations, beauty sessions, give-aways, gifts with purchase and refreshments.

Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, Elie Tahari, 7 For All Mankind, Trina Turk, Jonathan Adler, True Religion Brand Jeans, American Rag Cie, Jonathan Adler, Ever and Kate Spade are among the participating retailers.
