The Huntington Beach Fire Department is hosting an open house Saturday with live fire and vehicle extraction demonstrations.

The open house will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Fire Station 1 at 18311 Gothard St. The demonstrations will happen at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

There will also be fire station tours, refreshments and an appearance by Sparky the Fire Dog.

The open house will close out Fire Prevention Week which began Sunday. The theme this year is “Smoke Alarms: A Sound You Can Live With!,” and residents are urged to make sure smoke alarms are maintained and working properly by testing them at least once a month and replacing alarms that are 10 years or older if they don’t respond properly when tested. Residents should also replace the battery right away if the alarm “chirps.”

For more information on the open house, call the Fire Department at (714) 536-5411.
