Carol McCann passed peacefully at her home in Newport Beach Monday morning November 8, 2010. She was born Carol Joan Geissler in December 1929 in the Coachella Valley to agricultural pioneers Otto and Viola Geissler. Her brother Walter, a grower, desert agricultural expert, and WWII veteran, was 7 years her elder.

Carol was graduated from Coachella Valley High School and earned a degree in education at San Jose State. After college, Carol moved to downtown Los Angeles where she held office positions and where she met Dean McCann, an attorney and pharmacist. Carol and Dean were married in Coachella Valley.

Carol and Dean lived in Pasadena before moving to Newport Beach, Carol’s home of the past 40 years; they were lifelong USC boosters and donors, and traveled extensively until Dean’s passing in 1996. Carol was active in many service and charity organizations, including the Cinderella Guild of the Children’s Hospital of Orange County, and the Coachella Valley Historical Museum. Carol’s love of her desert roots never diminished.
