Ruth Irene Doelz

Ruth Irene Doelz, a long time resident of Corona Del Mar, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2011. Ruth was born in Sioux City, Iowa on January 27, 1924. She moved with her family to Glendale, CA before moving back to Iowa to attend Drake University. Ruth met her future husband, Melvin Doelz, while working at Collins Radio and the two moved to Corona Del Mar in the early 1960s. Ruth was a devoted wife and mother to her son, John. She enjoyed playing tennis, sailing, traveling to exotic places, and spending time with family and her many friends. She overcame a fear of flying and eventually became a travel agent. She attended St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, was a member of the Visionaries at the Newport Harbor Art Museum, and volunteered at the Newport Nautical Museum.

Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Mel, son John, brother Dick, and sister Dorothy. She leaves behind granddaughters Julianne and Jaclyn, daughter-in-law Joanne, sister-in-law Marjory, nieces Mary Lynn, Patty, Betsy, and Jennifer, nephews Tom and Fred,and several great nieces & nephews.

A memorial service for Ruth will be held on Saturday, January 29, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel at Pacific View Memorial Park, 3500 Pacific View Drive, Corona Del Mar (949) 644-2700. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in Ruth’s memory.
