Coastal Commission approves HB’s downtown update

The California Coastal Commission on June 15 approved the Huntington Beach Downtown Specific Plan Update, according to a city official.

Initially, the coastal staff disagreed with the city on some issues, including parking. But after working together on modifying some of the requirements, the commission and staff were in agreement.

The vote was unanimous, Mayor Joe Carchio said.

He said he’s pleased with the commission’s vote.

“We need to start taking care of some of the properties downtown that we’ve neglected for many years,” he said. “The Coastal Commission felt we presented a good plan and we were serving the public.”
