Woman hurt in canyon crash

One woman was injured after her car veered off Bluebird Canyon Road on Sunday.

The Laguna Beach Fire Department responded about 1 p.m. to the vehicle, which had rolled off the roadway into an interior canyon.

Division Chief Dan Stefano said the rescue was especially difficult due to the fact that it was in the bottom of the canyon, and the firefighters had to work through large portions of poison oak to get to the wreckage.

The woman was treated at the scene and taken to Mission Hospital Mission Viejo, where she was in fair condition.

"Given the magnitude of potential for a fatality or severe casualty on this type of incident, we are all fortunate that this crash did not result in a more devastating outcome," Stefano said.

Man arrested in Blue Laguna assault

A Dana Point man was arrested July 27 for assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly fighting a man who was having sexual relations with his girlfriend at the Blue Laguna restaurant July 2, according to Laguna Beach police.

Julian Kanuha Kanaeholo, 28, found his girlfriend having sexual relations with an employee of the restaurant in the outdoor area. He kicked the male in the face, which caused lacerations and knocked some teeth out.

Kanaeholo was arrested at his home after detectives identified him.

Possible assault reported Saturday

A man reported a possible assault victim in the 700 block of Cress Street on Saturday night.

At 10:09 p.m., a man called authorities to report that he saw a young male in the park who appeared to have been assaulted and looked unconscious.

Friends of the caller reported that they had seen six or seven men jump the victim.

When the caller approached the victim, he ran away screaming.
