Costa Mesa promotes Young to finance director

COSTA MESA — Bobby Young, the city’s budget and research officer who has been walking the council and public through the city’s finances for the last two years, was promoted Thursday to finance director.

Young has been shouldering most of the finance director’s duties since Marc Puckett resigned from the position in 2009 for undisclosed reasons.

The position remained vacant until earlier this year when Chief Executive Tom Hatch hired Larry Hurst as interim director while he searched for a permanent replacement.

Young has worked for the city since 2001 and worked in government finance for 15 years. He was promoted to budget and research officer in 2007.

He has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Cal State Fullerton. He is married with two children.
