A Costa Mesa man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly trying to sell a stolen bike on Craigslist, police said.

Denis Yoshio Cruz Ramirez, 23, was taken into custody at 11 a.m. at his residence in the 700 block of West Wilson Street on suspicion of possessing stolen property. He was booked with no bail because of an immigration hold.

A Huntington Beach man contacted Costa Mesa authorities Wednesday after finding what appeared to be his black, 21-speed Fuji road bike for sale on Craigslist for $280, according to a release from the Costa Mesa Police Department.

The bike, valued at $450, was stolen Jan. 7 from his gated yard.

The victim called Ramirez posing as an interested customer to find out Ramirez’ name and address before meeting with patrol officers in the area.

A plainclothes detective posed as the victim, met with Ramirez and found the bike to match the resident’s description, with the exception of two missing parts, according to the release.

Police found the missing parts — a bike light and seat bracket — in Ramirez’ house after Ramirez directed them to the items.
