John M. Belanger

John M. Belanger, beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather, was born February 20, 1932 in
Chicoutimi, Quebec, Canada. He passed away peacefully at home in Newport Beach, California,
after a courageous battle with diabetes. He left us on February 19, 2011 – one day prior to his
80th birthday.
John was born on February 20, 1932 in Chicoutimi, Quebec, Canada to Denis and Jeanne
Belanger. While John’s early days were happy, he suffered loss early. John’s father died as a
result of WW2, and his only sibling, his brother, died just a few years later.
John earned the equivalent of a CPA degree in Canada. In 1958, with only a minimal grasp of
English, John moved from Canada to California, eventually settling in Orange County in 1975
where he remained the rest of his life.
John loved his work. He had a passion for the automotive business that never tired, even during
the years he was hampered by illness. This passion and commitment resulted in a long,
successful and always satisfying career. In fact, John remained General Manager of Sterling
BMW in Newport Beach until his death.
John is survived by his loving wife, Jan, his sons, Dennis Belanger (Sue) and Alan Belanger
(Lolly), his grandson, Andrew Belanger, his stepchildren, Catherine Goodrow, Doug Goodrow
(Beth), Steve Goodrow (Marie), and his grandchildren, Brandon, Bridgette, Jason, John, and
John was a man of few words, but great vision. He was an extraordinary thinker and planner with
the self belief to achieve his dreams. He had a bright focus on what he wanted from life, and he
planned his approach accordingly. John lived a rich, active and fulfilling life, and while he left us
in peace, there is no doubt John would gladly have stayed to reach one last goal, to attack one last
problem, and to work one last day.
John’s life can be summed up beautifully with the 3 word tagline of Nike - “Just Do It!”
John lived an extraordinary life and all who had the privilege of knowing him were enriched. His
family and friends cherished him greatly.
John, you will be missed!
Au Revoir!
