‘Thank you’ event being held Saturday

A group of locals, including Tenpa Dorjee of Tibet Handicrafts, who traveled to a remote Tibetan refugee settlement are hosting a “Thank You” event with the community by showing a picture show of their trip at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Neighborhood Congregational Church at 340 St. Ann’s Drive.

The travelers gave away solar lights that they bought after holding a successful fundraiser in town in January, according to a news release.

Boutique seeks donations

The annual Boutique Benefit is seeking donations of gently-used clothes and accessories for the seventh annual sale May 18.

A drop-off will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 27 and May 11 at the Neighborhood Congregational Church, 340 St. Ann’s Drive.

Local to be honored by Boy Scouts

Laguna Beach Cub Scout Master Dr. John Hovanesian will be honored as a “Man of Character” by the Orange County Boy Scout Council on Wednesday at a banquet in Irvine, according to a news release.

Hovanesian is a renowned eye specialist and leads Cub Scout Pack 35.

Open for Business workshop on Thursday

The next Open for Business workshop will be hosted by the city from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Laguna Beach Community Center, 380 Third Street.

Workshop participants will include Planning Commissioners Norm Grossman and Ken Sadler; Kristine Thalman, executive director of the Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce; Susan Neely, local Realtor; and Monica Tuchscher, principal planner for the city, according to a news release.

“We are reaching out to business owners, building owners, commercial Realtors and others to let them know that we want to encourage and support new business in Laguna Beach,” said Mayor Kelly Boyd.
