Man arrested in alleged assault

Laguna Beach police arrested a man who allegedly assaulted two people at a hotel, then ran onto South Coast Highway Saturday night, police said.

Authorities arrested San Diego resident Christopher Harrigan Conti, 31, on suspicion of attempted battery and booked him on $500 bail, according to the police log.

A caller reported the alleged assault at the Seaside Laguna Inn and Suites, 1661 S Coast Hwy., at 10:54 p.m. Saturday, the log said.

The caller said the man was intoxicated and ran out into oncoming traffic, nearly causing a collision, Laguna Beach police Sgt. Louise Callus wrote in an email.

A motorist who almost hit Conti also called police, Callus said.

Officers located several witnesses as well as two victims of the alleged assault, police said.

Man arrested on suspicion of battery

A man who allegedly jumped over the counter at a Laguna Beach Taco Bell was arrested on suspicion of battery, Callus confirmed.

Police arrested Laguna Woods resident Ronald Russell Evans, 48, after employees of Taco Bell on South Coast Highway called 911 at 10:57 p.m. Saturday.

Employees said Evans allegedly tried to take advantage of an intoxicated woman, police said. One worker asked Evans to leave.

After being asked to leave, Evans allegedly leaped over the counter and punched an employee.

The woman ran out of the store when Evans jumped over the counter, Callus said.

Police did not have any information on the employees’ injuries.

Police arrest man for allegedly stealing car

Laguna Beach police charged a Los Angeles man with auto theft after stopping him along Coast Highway near El Morro Elementary School Monday.

Officers arrested David Viault, 23, on suspicion of auto theft after several police cars stopped him at 6:25 p.m. Monday, Callus said.

Viault’s mother, who lives in L.A., reported a black BMW 7-Series model stolen from L.A. on April 18, police said.

A Laguna Beach patrol officer had a hit on a stolen plate, which helped police locate the car.

Viault and a woman were inside the car. Police released the woman without charges.

Woman’s laptop stolen at Pavilions

A woman eating lunch in front of a Coast Highway grocery store had her laptop stolen Monday, police said.

The woman was eating next to the Pavilions market, 600 N. Pacific Coast Hwy., at about noon when a man grabbed the computer and ran away, police said.

The woman chased the suspect, who said he had a knife. The suspect then pulled out a knife on a man trying to help, police said.

The suspect got into a Honda and fled the scene. Police had not found the computer as of Wednesday, Callus said.

No arrests have been made.

Temple Hills Drive shut down after collision

A portion of Temple Hills Drive was closed for a short amount of time after a Land Rover and Toyota Tacoma collided April 19.

A caller reported the two cars collided in the intersection of San Remo Drive and Temple Hills at 9:02 a.m. April 19, according to the police log.

One passenger complained of pain and was taken to Mission Hospital Laguna Beach, Callus said.

The collision occurred when the Tacoma, on the south side of Temple Hills, tried to make a U-turn, police said. The Tacoma’s driver allegedly failed to check for oncoming traffic and struck the Land Rover.

The Land Rover had moderate damage while the Tacoma had minor damage, police said.
