Hoag Hospital received $2.5 million this week from Newport Beach philanthropists George and Julia Argyros, the hospital has announced.

The gift will fund additional education for nurses at Hoag Hospital.

The money from the Argyros Family Foundation was presented Thursday as part of Hoag Hospital’s annual Nurses Day.

“My sister, Connie Jones, was a nurse for over 40 years,” Julia Argyros said in a prepared statement. “I saw how hard she worked, how dedicated she was to nursing and how important it was to her that her patients receive the best care.”

The donation will benefit Hoag’s nurses across all disciplines, funding professional development and training on the latest advancements, Hoag President and Chief Executive Robert Braithwaite said.

“We want to provide Hoag nurses all the necessary tools to enable them to be the very best,” Julia Argyros said.
