Pretend City gets $30,000 grant

Kaiser Permanente provided a $30,000 grant to Pretend City Children's Museum in Irvine for its scholarship program that helps underprivileged students, according to a news release.

Pretend City's scholarship, Strive to Thrive Health and Wellness Field Trip Program, allows children from underprivileged communities to visit the center for free to learn about nutrition and exercise.

"The Pretend City Scholarship Program was created to assist those with the deepest need and to reduce potential barriers to museum use for all schools and children's programs," museum Executive Director Sandra Bolton wrote in an email.

The field trip is offered to students in preschool through first grade to help them understand the importance of healthy eating, balanced nutrition and physical activity.

Pretend City features a small, interconnected city that allows children to role-play and gain hands-on experiences.
