Seaplane startles beachgoers

A pilot practiced landing a seaplane on the water 50 yards off Main Beach on Monday afternoon, Laguna Beach police confirmed.

Dispatch received several calls around 12:58 p.m. about a plane that callers believed crashed and was dangerous to beachgoers, Sgt. Louise Callus wrote in an email.

Federal Aviation Administration officials contacted the pilot and determined there were no violations, Callus said.

No one was injured, and the pilot flew off toward the north, she said.

Police did not have information on the pilot, such as age or city of residence.
