Regatta breaks fundraising record

The Balboa Yacht Club’s 13th annual CHOC Regatta earlier this month raised more than $40,000 for Children’s Hospital of Orange County.

That’s a record-breaking amount for the event, the club announced.

Last year, the club raised $27,000 from the 72-boat race, raffle and fundraiser.

This year, more than 100 boats from Balboa and other yacht clubs took part in the two-day race.

All proceeds from this year’s event go to the post-anesthesia care unit in CHOC’s new tower, which opened in the spring.

“No child is ever turned away at CHOC because they may not have insurance or the means to pay for treatment,” according to the yacht club’s statement. “In order for this to be able to continue to happen, they need help from people like us.”
