Man injured, arrested in suspected DUI crash

A man was arrested Monday on suspicion of driving under the influence after crashing into a parked car in Huntington Beach, according to a statement from police.

The 56-year-old man was reportedly driving his silver 2012 Nissan Cube hatchback westbound on Ellis Avenue near Demion Lane when he crashed into a gray 2006 Ford F250 pickup truck that was legally parked against the curb around 8:15 p.m., according to police.

The Nissan's driver, who was the only occupant in the vehicle, was trapped inside the car. The Huntington Beach Fire Department had to use rescue equipment to cut the driver out of the hatchback, according to authorities.

Paramedics treated him at the scene and brought him to the Huntington Beach Police Department heliport. He was airlifted to UCI Medical Center with major injuries.

Police then arrested the man on suspicion of DUI and released him at the hospital to receive medical treatment.

Any witnesses to the traffic incident can call Officer Huynh at (714) 536-5670.
