A Dana Point man was charged with assault and battery after he allegedly punched a teenage boy Friday, according to Laguna Beach police.

Authorities charged Hal David Johnson, 56, after he and a 16-year-old Trabuco Canyon resident allegedly fought near the 31800 block of Coast Highway at 2:09 p.m., Sgt. Louise Callus wrote in an email.

“It appears this altercation started due to [Johnson] being upset that the younger people were loading up their car and he felt they were blocking the roadway,” Callus said. “Words were exchanged and then a fight happened.”

According to the report, the teen’s car was legally parked, she added.

The teen had multiple injuries, including abrasions to an elbow and upper back, while Johnson, who was later released, had a discoloration on his forehead and a bruised nose, police said.
