Three new recruits for the Newport Beach Fire Department graduated Friday from a four-week training academy.

Kendall Fudim, Nick Gerakos and Tim Hyde received their badges and fire station assignments during a public ceremony at Fire Station 7 in Santa Ana Heights.

The men draw on a diverse set of experiences, as outlined in a city news release. Fudim worked at the Sacramento County Coroner’s office and completed paramedic school at Sacramento State University. Hyde volunteered as a firefighter on Sundays for the past two and a half years. Gerakos, an Irvine native, worked for the Royal Bank of Canada as a financial analyst and coaches at University High in Irvine.
