This year a record 201 teams participated, representing 31 public and private schools within Newport Beach and Costa Mesa. The total number of children, parents and volunteers involved from the Newport-Mesa community was estimated at 10,000. Truly this event brings the entire community together.

Each year certain individuals go the extra mile to make certain the Cup runs smoothly. Once again, I would like to publicly recognize the number one volunteer, my wife Suzanne, who matched me hour for hour, both before and during the tournament.

A huge thank you to Jeff Grant for organizing the volunteer referees that covered 100% of the more than 300 games.

Others of note include Pam Garrett, Wendy Moore, Tom McDaniels, Gary March, Brett Eckles, John Fay, David Schultz, Pam Marciani, Juan Hernandez and the many school liaisons and coaches.

On behalf of the Cup I would like to thank Steve Virgen, Cara Stephens, Scott Pompe and the rest of the Daily Pilot staff for their outstanding coverage of the tournament.

Once again, the daily photographs and articles gave the Cup that extra-special feeling.

Hope to see you all next year for the 12th edition of the Cup.
