Public Service Announcement: Want to apply for the school board? Here's how

Because of the retirement of board member David Brooks, the Newport-Mesa Unified School District's governing board has a vacancy.

The vacancy will be filled by provisional appointment after an application and public interview process. The successful candidate's term will be March 11 to Dec. 8.

Any eligible resident within the district's Trustee Area 1 may apply. Eligibility requirements pursuant to Government Code 35107 are:

• (B) An employee of a school district may not be sworn into office as an elected or appointed member of that school district's governing board unless, and until, he or she resigns as an employee. If the employee does not resign, the employment will automatically terminate upon being sworn into office.
