High School Roundup: Edison boys’ basketball beats Irvine in Grizzly Invitational opener

Connor Collins, Luke Serven and Bradley Luna combined for 42 points, and the Edison High boys’ basketball team defeated Irvine 76-30 in Monday’s pool-play game of the Grizzly Invitational at Godinez High.

The Chargers (2-0) resume tournament play against host Godinez on Tuesday at 6:15 p.m.

Newport Harbor 73, Savanna 29: Luke Barnes had eight points and seven assists in the Sailors’ opening game of the Grizzly Invitational on Monday at Loara High.

Gianni Pasero had nine points for Newport Harbor (4-1), which will play Foothill in the tournament on Tuesday at Loara at 7:45 p.m.

Estancia 71, La Quinta 33: Cameron Khoury and Brandon Pearson each had 18 points for the Eagles, who improved to 6-1 with Monday’s victory in a Los Amigos Winter Classic opener.

Laguna Beach 67, Costa Mesa 24: The Breakers are 2-2 after their Grizzly Invitational pool-play game on Monday at Godinez High.

The Mustangs fell to 0-3.

Los Amigos 50, Sunny Hills 49: The host Lobos (2-3) started their Los Amigos Winter Classic with a victory on Monday.

Huntington Beach 76, Saddleback 50: The Oilers (2-4) ended a two-game losing streak with Monday’s win in the Grizzly Invitational at Segerstrom High.

Sage Hill 75, Downey Calvary Chapel 30: The Lightning improved to 2-3 after Monday’s opener in the Coyote Classic at Buena Park High.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Sage Hill 57, Edison 48: The Lightning and Chargers started play in the Hawk Holiday Classic at Ocean View High on Monday.

Madison Copeland led Edison with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Saddleback 41, Newport Harbor 35: Willa Rath finished with 12 points, nine rebounds and four steals for the Sailors in a Hawk Holiday Classic opener on Monday at Ocean View High.

Emma Fults contributed 12 points, 12 rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots for Newport Harbor (4-1).

BOYS’ SOCCER

Mission Viejo 4, Estancia 2: Chris Ayala scored twice for the Eagles (1-2-1) in the nonleague match on the road Monday.

University 4, Huntington Beach 0: The visiting Oilers lost their season opener on Monday.
