The 61st Orange County North vs. South All-Star Classic high school football game will be held on Jan. 25 at Orange Coast College.

Costa Mesa United will host the showcase of the county’s top senior talent, with the Los Angeles Chargers sponsoring the event.

“The Orange County All-Star football game is a community treasure,” Costa Mesa United President Gordon Bowley said in a press release. “We are honored and privileged to uphold the standard of managing the All-Star game the way the Brea Lions Club did for so many years.”

The O.C. All-Star Classic, which began in 1959, will span its eighth decade when the game is played next month.

Mission Viejo coach Chad Johnson has been chosen to head the South roster, while Western’s Dan Davidson will coach the North team.

Johnson led the Diablos to the South Coast League championship and an 11-1 record this season. Mission Viejo finished the season ranked No. 2 in Orange County. The Diablos lost to Mater Dei 49-24 in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 semifinals.

Davidson guided the Pioneers to a 9-2 record and an undefeated Pac 4 League title this season. The previous season, he helped Western win its first CIF title, as the Pioneers defeated Rolling Hills Estates Peninsula 49-21 in the Division 11 final.

The South defeated the North 16-7 in last season’s game.
