High School Roundup: Pacifica Christian Orange County boys’ basketball wins CdM Beach Bash opener

Junior point guard Houston Mallette had 31 points and eight rebounds for the Pacifica Christian Orange County High boys’ basketball team in an 85-61 win over University on Tuesday in a Corona del Mar Beach Bash tournament pool-play game at CdM High.

Riyaan Jiwani and Elijah Paschal each had 13 points for the Tritons (7-1), who are ranked No. 4 in the CIF Southern Section Division 2A poll.

Pacifica Christian continues the tournament Thursday at 7:30 p.m. against host CdM.

Laguna Beach 59, Esperanza 41: Nolan Naess had 22 points for the Breakers in Tuesday’s Gary Raya SoCal Elite Tournament game at Woodbridge High.

Lucas Kravitz had 11 points for the Breakers (7-3), ranked No. 13 in CIF Southern Section Division 3AA, who continue the tournament Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Portola.

Newport Harbor 51, Trabuco Hills 39: Robbie Spooner had 16 points for the Sailors in Tuesday’s St. Margaret’s Tartan Classic pool-play game.

Ryan Miller added 12 points for Newport Harbor (8-2).

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Newport Harbor 2, Tesoro 0: Kenna Robar and Alyssa Sims each scored for the Sailors in Tuesday’s nonleague match at home.

Robar and Skylynn Rodriguez had assists for Newport Harbor (3-1), ranked No. 6 in CIF Southern Section Division 1, while goalkeeper Jessica Gardner preserved the shutout.

Corona del Mar 2, El Toro 1: Megan Chelf and Nikki Senske scored for the Sea Kings in Tuesday’s nonleague game on the road.

Gio Broderick made four saves for the Sea Kings (4-0), ranked No. 5 in CIF Southern Section Division 1.

CdM opens the Best of the West Tournament against Paloma Valley on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Warren High.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Fountain Valley 55, Bolsa Grande 9: Audrey Tengan led the Barons with nine points in Tuesday’s game of the Artesia Tournament.

Tiffany Shimizu scored eight points, and Sandy Lam added seven points for Fountain Valley (4-5).

Newport Harbor 52, Katella 13: Fiona Lin, Willa Rath and Genevieve Perry finished with 10 points each for the host Sailors on Tuesday in a nonleague game.

Emma Fults added four points, 17 rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocked shots for Newport Harbor (6-3).

Cydney Jover contributed four points, five assists and three steals. Chloe Swanson chipped in with eight points.
