High School Roundup: Newport Harbor girls’ water polo beats San Clemente in battle of ranked teams

Morgan Netherton had a team-high four goals for the Newport Harbor High girls’ water polo team, ranked No. 7 in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 and 2 poll, in a 9-6 win over No. 9 San Clemente on Thursday in a nonleague road match.

Olivia Giolas also had two goals, and Anna Reed made seven saves for Newport Harbor (4-0).

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Edison 55, Santa Barbara 43: Connor Collins scored 17 points on Thursday, helping the Chargers advance to the semifinals of the Corona del Mar Beach Bash.

Bradley Luna had 16 points for Edison (6-2), which will play Mater Dei in the semifinals at CdM High on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Jackie Kwok added 12 points.

Newport Harbor 61, San Juan Hills 57: Robbie Spooner had 23 points to lead the Sailors on Thursday in a pool-play game of the Tartan Classic at St. Margaret’s Episcopal School.

Levi Darrow added 12 points for Newport Harbor (9-3).

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Los Amigos 41, Estancia 22: Kathleen Nguyen had a team-high 12 points for the visiting Lobos on Thursday in a nonleague game.

Alexandra Lopez had nine points, and Leilani Cooley added six points for Los Amigos (7-4).

Estancia fell to 2-9.

Trabuco Hills 51, Ocean View 41: The Seahawks suffered their third straight defeat in the Villa Park Tournament at Canyon High on Thursday.

Ocean View is 4-6.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Edison 3, Bellflower 1: Luke Slavik and Riley Holmes each had a goal and an assist to lead the Chargers in Thursday’s match of the Adidas West Coast Showcase at Bellflower High.

Esteban Palacios also scored a goal that was assisted by Josh Tsuda for Edison (3-0).

San Bernardino Public Safety Academy 6, Pacifica Christian Orange County 0: The visiting Tritons dropped to 1-4 following Thursday’s nonleague match.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Pacifica Christian Orange County 5, Tarbut V’Torah 0: Leila Bahnsen set a single-match school record with four goals for the visiting Tritons in Thursday’s nonleague match.

Payton Reike added a goal and an assist for Pacifica Christian (4-1). Brooklyn Motske produced two assists.
