High School Roundup: Fountain Valley boys’ basketball outlasts Faith Lutheran at Tarkanian Classic

Jeremiah Davis finished with 29 points, including the go-ahead basket, and the Fountain Valley High boys’ basketball team beat Las Vegas Faith Lutheran 54-53 in Wednesday’s Eastbay Division opener at the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas.

Preston Amarillo had 11 points and six rebounds for the Barons (5-2), who continue in the tournament on Thursday at 6:20 p.m. against Fort Lauderdale (Fla.).

Ocean View 69, Loara 36: The visiting Seahawks improved to 7-5 after Wednesday’s game at the Loara Tournament.

Los Amigos 84, Orange 43: The Lobos improved to 5-6 after Wednesday’s nonleague road game.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Corona del Mar 3, Northwood 0: Megan Chelf scored twice for the Sea Kings in Wednesday’s nonleague match at Bonita Creek Sports Park.

Maddie Rosen had a goal and an assist for CdM (7-0), ranked No. 5 in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 poll. Mia Ferrentino had two assists, and Sydney Walls made five saves.

CdM plays against Downey Warren in the Best of the West “EFGH” Division semifinals Saturday at 11 a.m. at Warren High.

Edison 6, Canyon 1: Christina Hardway scored twice for the Chargers in Wednesday’s nonleague road match.

Maddie Klasey, Maddie Solorzano, Grace Ingalls and Sophia Drake added goals for Edison (3-2-2). Morgan Roberts, Ella Marcus and Nicole Field each tallied assists.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Marina 7, Dana Hills 1: Eric Church scored five goals to lead the host Vikings on Wednesday in a nonleague match.

Damian Campos had two goals and three assists for Marina (2-2-2). Pete Frousiakis added two assists, while Damiond Mendoza and Aaron Arredondo each had one assist.

Edison 2, Katella 0: The host Chargers (5-1) received goals from Luke Slavik and Armand Pigeon in Wednesday’s nonleague match.

Corona del Mar 3, Trabuco Hills 1: Chase Marion, Jennings Torgelson and Hassan Selim each scored a goal for the visiting Sea Kings in a nonleague match on Wednesday.

Aidan Holmes and Tommy Cianfrani had an assist apiece for CdM (5-1).

Los Amigos 4, Western 1: Andy Millan had two goals and an assist for the host Lobos in Wednesday’s nonleague match.

Francisco Lopez and Mauricio Rodriguez each had one goal for Los Amigos (3-1-3).

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Newport Harbor 64, Western 40: Cydney Jover had 15 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals to lead the visiting Sailors in a nonleague game on Wednesday.

Willa Rath added 14 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and three blocked shots for Newport Harbor (8-4). Chloe Swanson also had 10 points, 10 rebounds and five steals, and Emma Fults provided six points, 12 rebounds and nine assists.

Huntington Beach 52, Phoenix (Ariz.) Mountain Pointe 37: Andie Payne had 12 points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots to lead the Oilers in Wednesday’s game of the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix, Ariz.

Alyssa Real had a team-high 13 points for Huntington Beach (5-3). Akemi Tanga added 10 points.

WRESTLING

Fountain Valley 70, Edison 9: The visiting Barons won the Surf League opener on Wednesday.

Fountain Valley received pins Matt Phillips (106 pounds), Kade Ayres (113), Sean Solis (120), Mike Folch (126), Connor Williams (132), Luis Ramirez (145), Max Wilner (170), Kyle Conde (182) and Matthew Fee (285).

Noah Barlow had a pin for Edison.

Marina 37, Los Alamitos 33: The host Vikings improved to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in Surf League action on Wednesday.

Newport Harbor 41, Capistrano Valley 39: The visiting Sailors received pins from Luis Nateras (138 pounds), Aidan Gassel (145), Santino Panasitti (152), Cole Reynolds (160) and Max Hernandez (195) in Wednesday’s nonleague dual meet.

Newport Harbor is 8-4.

Newport Harbor 46, El Modena 27: Kai Villasenor, Jack Jones (126 pounds), Joshua Martinez (132), Panasitti and Reynolds recorded victories by fall for the Sailors in Wednesday’s nonleague dual meet at Capistrano Valley High.
