College Roundup: UC Irvine men’s basketball falls at Illinois-Chicago

Eyassu Worku had 19 points for the UC Irvine men’s basketball team in a 76-67 nonconference loss at Illinois-Chicago on Friday.

Collin Welp added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Anteaters (7-7), who scored 13 straight points in the second half but couldn’t rally all the way back.

UC Irvine hosts University of the Pacific on Dec. 28 at 7 p.m.

Saddleback 83, Golden West 65: Eric Watson had a team-high 15 points and five rebounds for the Rustlers on Friday in an Orange Empire Conference game at home.

Justin Kirksey added 11 points, and Christian Anderson scored 10 points for Golden West (2-11, 0-2 in conference).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Vanderbilt 76, UC Irvine 63: Alexus Seaton scored 23 points for the Anteaters in Friday’s Husky Classic game hosted by the University of Washington in Seattle, Wash.

Chloe Webb scored 10 points and Lauren Saiki had nine for UCI (3-8).

Santa Barbara 76, Golden West 62: Roxie Aquino had 14 points to lead the Rustlers on Friday in the El Camino Crossover Tournament.

Mylee Madrazo contributed 11 points, five rebounds and five steals for Golden West (1-8). Abigail Guerrero also had 13 points.
