Brethren Christian’s Shawnee Starke named to All-Express League second team in girls’ volleyball

Brethren Christian High sophomore setter Shawnee Starke received second-team All-Express League honors in girls’ volleyball.

Sophomore middle blocker Rachel Peters was an honorable mention for the Warriors (2-12, 0-8 in league).

Brethren Christian went five sets against Downey Calvary Chapel in its league opener at home, accounting for the two sets the Warriors won in league competition.

Sophomore setter Virginia Soto was named the Express League Player of the Year after leading Avalon (35-8, 6-0) to the league title. The Lancers reached the CIF Southern Section Division 9 final, losing to Wildomar Cornerstone Christian in three sets.

Tarbut V’Torah’s Shira Paster earned the league’s Libero of the Year award.

Calvary Chapel’s Jeremiah Mitte was selected as the Coach of the Year.
