High School Roundup: Laguna Beach girls’ water polo clinches outright Surf League title

Emma Lineback, Rachael Carver and Emma Singer had three goals each, helping the Laguna Beach High girls’ water polo team clinch the outright Surf League title with a 13-8 win over Corona del Mar on Tuesday at Newport Harbor High.

Molly Renner scored twice for Laguna Beach (20-1, 5-0 in league), the top-ranked team in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 and 2 poll. Morgan Van Alphen and Nicole Struss also scored.

Kaity Greenwald led No. 10 CdM (9-13, 2-3) with two goals.

Newport Harbor 11, Los Alamitos 9: Ashley Salem scored four goals for the host Sailors in Tuesday’s Surf League match.

Taylor Smith scored three goals for Newport Harbor (16-5, 3-2 in league), ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division 1 and 2. Morgan Netherton and Olivia Giolas each scored twice.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Edison 1, Los Alamitos 0: Nikki Marino scored the game-winning goal in the 79th minute for the visiting Chargers in Tuesday’s Surf League match.

Lucy Granger had the assist for Edison (10-4-4, 2-1-1 in league), which pulled into a first-place tie with Los Alamitos (18-4-4, 2-1-1) with two matches remaining in league play.

Alyssa Plotkin had two saves for Edison, which hosts Corona del Mar on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Huntington Beach 4, Corona del Mar 0: Summer Stewart had two goals for the Oilers in Tuesday’s Surf League match at home.

Liz Johnson and Camila Foster also scored for Huntington Beach (10-7-6, 2-2 in league).

Goalkeeper Sydney Walls had five saves for CdM (11-4-2, 1-3).

Ocean View 5, Western 0: Sisters Leah and Kate Marsh combined for three goals for the Seahawks in Tuesday’s Golden West League home match.

Bella Messina and Marlene Ruiz also scored for Ocean View (10-9-1, 4-2-1 in league).

Pacifica Christian Orange County 1, Saddleback Valley Christian 0: Maggie O’Callaghan scored for the Tritons in Tuesday’s San Joaquin League match at Vanguard University.

Payton Reike assisted on the goal for Pacifica Christian (9-4, 3-3 in league).

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Fountain Valley 64, Laguna Beach 27: Zoe Ziegler had 11 points for the Barons in Tuesday’s Wave League game on the road.

Caitlin Okawa and Tiffany Shimizu each added nine points for first-place Fountain Valley (15-11, 4-0 in league).

Laguna Beach is now 10-16 overall and 0-4 in league play.

Huntington Beach 66, Corona del Mar 58: Madeline Krause had 17 points for the host Oilers in Tuesday’s Surf League game.

Alyssa Real scored 16 points for first-place Huntington Beach (19-5, 4-0 in league).

Corona del Mar fell to 19-7 overall and 2-2 in the league.

Edison 59, Los Alamitos 45: Taylor Fullbright scored 18 points in the Chargers’ Surf League game on the road Tuesday.

Adelina Fredrick had 10 points and eight rebounds for Edison (15-11, 2-2 in league). Sarah Gray added eight points and 10 rebounds.

Marina 47, Newport Harbor 43: Greta Graeler had 17 points and 17 rebounds for the Vikings, who outscored the Sailors 25-12 in the second half of Tuesday’s Wave League game at home.

Malia Kawakubo contributed 17 points, eight rebounds and three steals for Marina (7-18, 3-1 in league).

Newport Harbor (11-14, 1-3) was led by Emma Fults’ 13 points and nine rebounds. Willa Rath had eight points, 13 rebounds and three blocked shots.

Santa Ana 53, Estancia 15: The Eagles dropped to 3-22 overall and 1-6 in the Orange Coast League after Tuesday’s road game.
