College Roundup: UC Irvine men’s basketball falls at UC Santa Barbara

A second-half rally fell short as the UC Irvine men’s basketball team lost 64-61 at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday in a Big West Conference game.

Brad Greene had 16 points and six rebounds to lead the Anteaters (15-10, 7-2 in conference). Evan Leonard added 12 points.

UC Irvine returns to action with a game at UC Riverside on Wednesday.

Vanguard 88, Ottawa University (Az.) 68: Aziz Seck had 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Lions in Saturday’s Golden State Athletic Conference road game.

Masie Mohammadi had 13 points for Vanguard (12-12, 5-7 in conference).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

UC Irvine 73, UC Davis 68: Lauren Saiki had 17 points and seven assists for the Anteaters in Saturday’s Big West Conference home game.

Dani Guglielmo scored 16 points for UC Irvine (7-16, 3-6 in conference).

Vanguard 71, Ottawa University (Az.) 61: Victoria Chea had 23 points and 10 assists for the Lions in Saturday’s Golden State Athletic Conference road game.

Tristen Rollon scored 10 points for No. 6 Vanguard (18-3, 10-2 in conference).

BASEBALL

Benedictine University 5, Vanguard 4: Joe Johnson had two hits and two runs batted in for the Lions in the first game of Saturday’s nonconference doubleheader at Vanguard.

Aki Buckson also had two hits and two runs scored for the Lions (7-2).

Vanguard 4, Benedictine University 0: Devin Sutorius pitched the complete-game shutout as the Lions salvaged a split of Saturday’s doubleheader.

Sutorius allowed three hits and struck out three for Vanguard. Chad Sutton had a two-run single.

Orange Coast 7, Cuesta 3: Logan Jackson was two for four with a triple and three runs batted in for the Pirates in Saturday’s nonconference road game.

Drew Baltruweit also had two hits and an RBI for Orange Coast (2-5).

Reedley 6, Golden West 5: Seth Nelson hit a two-run home run for the Rustlers in Saturday’s nonconference road game.

Enrique Bennett and Vinny Tosti each had two hits for Golden West (3-5).

SOFTBALL

Golden West 7, Moorpark 1: Kaylee Hammond was three for four with a double and two runs batted in for the Rustlers in Saturday’s nonconference home game.

Kaylee Canto scored three runs for Golden West (3-2).

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

UC San Diego 3, Vanguard 0: The Lions fell to 5-3 overall after Saturday’s 25-19, 25-21, 27-25 nonconference road loss.

WOMEN’S WATER POLO

UC Irvine 13, Santa Clara 3: Tara Prentice scored three goals for the Anteaters in Saturday’s Triton Invitational match at UC San Diego.

Toni Shackelford and Sarah Nichols each added two goals for No. 5 UC Irvine (7-2).

Arizona State 10, UC Irvine 9: Elena Flynn had three goals for the Anteaters in Saturday’s Triton Invitational match.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

UC Irvine 7, Hope International 0: The doubles teams of Dana Mackensen and Arianna Tilbury, Gillian Parker and Jacqueline Tsodikova, as well as Shreya Pavani and Megan Mansonhing, all won for the Anteaters in Saturday’s nonconference home match.

UC Irvine improved to 2-3.

WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

New Mexico Collegiate Classic

UC Irvine had a school record in the 4x400 meters to highlight Saturday’s action at Albuquerque Convention Center.

Sha’Maya Flanagan, Mychal Robinson, Tess Mathes and Zani Meaders finished in 3 minutes, 48.24 seconds.
