High School Roundup: Newport Harbor, Pacifica Christian advance to CIF girls’ basketball semifinals

Chase Dionio had a team-high 24 points to lead the Newport Harbor High School girls’ basketball team to a 63-42 win over host San Bernardino on Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 4A playoffs.

Cydney Jover was a close second in scoring for the No. 2-seeded Sailors with 22 points. Willa Rath added eight points and 15 rebounds, and Emma Fults had four points, 12 rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Emma Coatsworth also had three points, seven rebounds and three assists, and Daelyn Renee added two points, two assists, two blocks and two steals for Newport Harbor.

Newport Harbor (16-2) will be at Santa Ana Calvary Chapel (17-3) for its semifinal game on Saturday.

No. 1 Pacifica Christian Orange County 62, San Gabriel Academy 29: Annika Jiwani had 27 points in Wednesday’s road win, as the top-seeded Tritons began their playoff run in the Division 5A bracket.

Lauryn Ham scored 15 points, and Charis Wondercheck added 14 points for Pacifica Christian.

Pacifica Christian (14-4) will host Playa Del Rey St. Bernard in its semifinal game. St. Bernard beat the Apple Valley Academy for Academic Excellence 36-21 in its quarterfinal matchup.

BOYS’ WRESTLING

No. 1 Covina Northview 43, No. 4 Fountain Valley 21: The visiting Barons saw their playoff run come to an end in the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 2 dual meet wrestling championships on Wednesday.

Fountain Valley (5-2), the Surf League champion, was seeking back-to-back section dual meet wrestling titles, having taken the Division 3 crown against Long Beach Millikan last season.

Northview (10-0) will be at No. 3-seeded Calvary Chapel (10-0) in the Division 2 championship match.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

No. 2 Corona del Mar 13, El Segundo 8: The host Sea Kings won Wednesday’s Division 2 quarterfinal match.

Corona del Mar (16-5) will travel to take on No. 3-seeded Goleta Dos Pueblos (14-1) on Saturday in the semifinals.
