High School Roundup: Estancia boys’ water polo routs La Quinta in season opener

Senior James RuoRock scored a game-high four goals as the Estancia High School boys’ water polo team beat Westminster La Quinta 13-3 in its season opener on the road Tuesday.

Goalkeeper Peyton Watkins made 17 saves for the Eagles.

Estancia hosts El Modena on Thursday at 3 p.m.

Edison 11, Redondo Union 10: Senior Tommy Kelly scored the game-winner for the Chargers in their nonleague season opener on the road Tuesday.

JSerra 10, Laguna Beach 9: Senior Will Kelly scored five goals for the Breakers in their nonleague loss Tuesday at JSerra High.

Senior Holden Seybold also scored twice for Laguna Beach (1-1), while junior Hutton Ledger and freshman Cade Anderton also found the back of the net.

The Breakers play at San Juan Hills on Sept. 7.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Estancia 3, Santa Ana Valley 0: The Eagles continued their season-opening winning streak with a 25-8, 25-14, 25-16 sweep on Tuesday in a nonleague match on the road.

Estancia (5-0) will look to keep the streak alive on Thursday when it travels to take on Rancho Alamitos (2-2).

Newport Harbor 3, San Clemente 2: Anabel Kotzalov had 15 kills to lead the host Sailors to a 25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 22-25, 16-14 win on Tuesday in a nonleague match.

Emma Fults had 13 kills, and Quinn Perry chipped in with eight kills for Newport Harbor (5-4). Anne O’Brien and Gabbi Higgs each had six kills. O’Brien and Perry combined on the match-clinching block in the decisive set.

Newport Harbor plays host to JSerra on Thursday.

Capistrano Valley Christian 3, Pacifica Christian Orange County 0: Senior libero Carly Kane had 15 digs, but the visiting Tritons fell in Tuesday’s nonleague match by a score of 25-17, 25-21, 25-20.

Junior middle blocker Rebecca Penjoyan provided eight kills, and freshman outside hitter Julia Hanson added five kills for Pacifica Christian (6-4).

The Tritons return home to face Samueli Academy on Friday at 5:45 p.m.

GIRLS’ GOLF

Ocean View 250, Costa Mesa 256: The Seahawks claimed victory in an Orange Coast League match at David L. Baker Golf Course on Tuesday afternoon.

Sydney Ngo was the medalist for the Mustangs (0-1), carding a two-over par 33.

Ocean View improved to 1-1 overall and in league.
