High School Roundup: Los Amigos football takes first league loss to Santiago

Bao Huynh ran for 117 yards and a touchdown, but the Los Amigos High School football team fell to Santiago 29-10 on Thursday in a Garden Grove League game at Garden Grove High School.

Los Amigos (4-4, 2-1), which had a two-game winning streak snapped, will play host to Westminster La Quinta next Friday.

Santiago extended its winning streak to three games, improving to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in league.

Los Alamitos 56, Fountain Valley 7: The visiting Griffins won their third straight game on Thursday in a Sunset League game at Huntington Beach High School.

Malachi Nelson threw for 340 yards and six touchdowns for Los Alamitos (7-1, 3-0).

Fountain Valley (1-7, 0-3) has lost seven in a row.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Corona del Mar 16, Newport Harbor 2: Jane Paulsen and Shea Tomac swept in singles for the Sea Kings in Thursday’s first Battle of the Bay rivalry match at Newport Harbor High.

Coco Davis won twice in singles for CdM, which improved to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in the Surf League. The doubles teams of Lauren Jones and Cate Montgomery, Sara Miller and Sydnee Spirlin, as well as Lena Pham and Irasema Loredo, each won twice.

Newport Harbor is now 6-8 overall, and 1-2 in league.

Laguna Beach 16, Fountain Valley 2: Katelyn Smith, Sarah MacCallum and Jessica MacCallum all swept in singles for the Breakers in Thursday’s Wave League match at Laguna Beach High.

The sister team of Ainsley and Kendyl Beresford swept in doubles for Laguna Beach (6-4, 3-0 in league).

Fountain Valley is now 4-10 overall, and 0-3 in league play.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Estancia 15, Santa Ana 4: Dane Dodge and Micah Gniffke each had five goals for the Eagles in Thursday’s Orange Coast League match on the road.

Goalkeeper Peyton Watkins made 17 saves for Estancia (14-5, 3-0 in league), which plays in the Ocean View tournament this weekend.

Laguna Beach 17, San Jose Bellarmine Prep 8: Will Kelly scored five goals for the Breakers in Thursday’s road match in the Bay Area.

Sai Bassett, Brady Bumgardner, Vik Kasaraneni and Nick Hoffs all scored twice for Laguna Beach (11-8), which plays in the North-South Challenge hosted by Atherton Sacred Heart Prep this weekend.
