High School Roundup: Costa Mesa girls’ soccer secures fourth straight Orange Coast League crown

The Costa Mesa High School girls’ soccer team defeated visiting Orange 5-0 on Monday to clinch its fourth consecutive Orange Coast League championship.

Alexys Lopez scored two goals, and Brianna Calderon, Daisy Carrillo and Jewel Rubright each had one goal for Costa Mesa (10-9-3, 8-0-1 in the Orange Coast League).

Itzel Ramirez, Jayde Rubright, Bryanna Elias, Rachel Friedland and Ana Baltazar recorded assists in the contest for the Mustangs.

Edison 1, Corona del Mar 0: Nikki Scott scored the lone goal for the visiting Chargers on Monday in a Surf League match.

Edison (13-8-1, 3-2) faces Huntington Beach (13-6-4, 2-3) at home on Wednesday.

Sydney Walls and Alex Boserup had four saves a piece for CdM (12-6-2, 1-4), which closes out the regular season at home against Los Alamitos (14-4-5, 4-1).

Santa Ana 3, Estancia 1: The Eagles fell to 5-13-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the Orange Coast League with Monday’s loss at Jim Scott Stadium.

Estancia, which is in fourth place, has a road match against Calvary Chapel (8-4-1, 5-2-1) in its league finale.

Laguna Beach 2, Fountain Valley 0: The Breakers improved to 5-8-2 overall and 2-3 in the Wave League following Monday’s result at Fountain Valley High School.

Laguna Beach plays host to Newport Harbor (11-8-4, 4-0) on Thursday, while Fountain Valley (6-11-3, 1-4) plays at Marina (6-8-2, 2-2).

Huntington Beach 2, Los Alamitos 1: Chloe Tague and Jaiden Anderson scored for the Oilers in the Surf League on Monday at home.

Ashley Fujimori and Anderson each had an assist for Huntington Beach (13-6-4, 2-3).

Marissa Salazar scored the goal for Los Alamitos (14-4-5, 4-1).

Los Amigos 3, Westminster La Quinta 0: The Lobos kept a clean sheet for the third time this season in a shutout victory at home on Monday in a Garden Grove League match.

Los Amigos (11-5, 7-2) is in second place in the league.

St. Margaret’s 2, Pacifica Christian Orange County 1: Leila Bahnsen scored on a free kick for the host Tritons, who fell to 13-8 overall and 1-5 in the San Joaquin League on Monday.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Costa Mesa 2, Orange 1: Sophomores Jose Zarate and Miguel Reyes scored for the Mustangs on Monday in an Orange Coast League match on the road.

Goalkeeper Ethan Smithlin stopped four shots to earn the win for Costa Mesa (5-13-5, 2-6-1), which ends the regular season with a home game against Santa Ana (12-3-5, 8-0-1) on Wednesday.

Santa Ana 3, Estancia 1: The Saints clinched the outright Orange Coast League title on Monday in defeating the second-place Eagles at the Santa Ana Bowl.

Estancia (6-11-2, 6-2-1) plays host to Calvary Chapel (5-8-2, 3-3-2) on Wednesday.

Los Alamitos 3, Fountain Valley 1: With the assistance of a Corona del Mar win at Edison on Monday night, Los Alamitos (9-5-4, 5-0) clinched the Surf League crown with its win over the Barons at home.

Ethan Larson scored a goal for Fountain Valley (2-9-4, 0-5).

Huntington Beach 2, Marina 0: The Oilers earned at least a share of the Wave League championship with their win on Monday at Marina High School.

Nico Ruiz and Tyler Kakimoto scored for Huntington Beach (13-2-5, 4-0-1), which would clinch the league title outright with a win or tie against Laguna Beach (4-10, 0-4), or via a Newport Harbor (7-4-4, 2-1-1) loss or tie in its final two games.

Marina fell to 4-13-2 overall and 2-3 in league.

Los Amigos 1, Westminster La Quinta 0 (OT): Randy Arciga scored a goal assisted by Omar Arciga, as the Lobos avoided a setback in their Garden Grove League championship aspirations with Monday’s overtime win on the road.

Daniel Terrones made one save for Los Amigos (11-3-1, 7-1-1), which can clinch the league title with a win at Rancho Alamitos (6-10-1, 5-3-1), or through a Santiago (10-4-6, 6-1-2) loss or tie against Bolsa Grande (3-13-2, 1-8) on Wednesday.

Westminster 2, Ocean View 0: The Seahawks dropped to 0-16-1 overall and 0-9 in the Golden West League this season following Monday’s result on the road.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Costa Mesa 56, Orange 37: Nate Schipper had a team-high 17 points and five steals for the visiting Mustangs on Monday in an Orange Coast League game.

Josh Galamgam added 10 points and seven rebounds for Costa Mesa (8-16, 3-4), which plays host to Santa Ana (15-8, 7-2) on Wednesday.

Santa Ana 67, Estancia 39: The Eagles took a third loss in their last four games in an Orange Coast League contest on Monday at Santa Ana High School.

Estancia (17-10, 4-5) finishes the regular season at home against Calvary Chapel (20-7, 9-0) on Wednesday.

Ocean View 57, Godinez 33: The Seahawks outscored the Grizzlies 35-17 in the first half to key a Golden West League victory on Monday at Godinez High School.

Jeremiah Santiago scored 12 points to pace Ocean View (15-8, 5-2), which is in second place in the league. Chico Lopez and Peyton Guerrero each scored 11 points.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Orange 37, Costa Mesa 26: The Mustangs dropped to 3-14 overall and 0-9 in the Orange Coast League following Monday’s loss at home.

Laguna Beach 51, Edison 39: Sophie Marriner had 15 points and 20 rebounds to lead the host Breakers in a Wave League game on Monday night.

Kenna Rudolph added 12 points, four steals and three assists, and Kate Cheng chipped in with 11 points and six blocked shots for Laguna Beach (17-9, 3-2).

Bailey Chang scored 11 points, and Mia Cassel added 10 points for Edison (9-18, 2-3).

Santa Ana 44, Estancia 20: Mackenzie Sanchez paced the Eagles with 14 points on Monday in an Orange Coast League game at home.

Estancia (12-10, 3-5) travels to take on Calvary Chapel (15-2, 9-0) on Wednesday.

Huntington Beach 45, Los Alamitos 42: Akemi Tanga and Lily Alonso both scored 13 points for the Oilers on Monday in a Surf League game.

Huntington Beach (12-12, 1-4) remains at home to face Fountain Valley (17-5, 4-0) on Wednesday.

Newport Harbor 54, Marina 27: Cydney Jover scored a team-high 17 points to go with five assists and five steals for the host Sailors on Monday in a Wave League game.

Chase Dionio added 16 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals for Newport Harbor (18-8, 5-0), which clinched the outright Wave League title. Emma Fults also had five points, nine rebounds and five steals.

Marina (5-19, 0-5) has lost 12 games in a row.

Newport Christian 53, Samueli Academy 31: Lani Bowman had 20 points and five rebounds to lead the Seahawks in an Academy League game at home on Monday.

Adriana Martinez added five points, 13 rebounds, three assists and three steals for Newport Christian (8-5, 3-3). Abbi Bowman also scored eight points.

Sage Hill 73, St. Margaret’s 27: Emily Eadie had 20 points, 19 rebounds and three steals to lead the Lightning on Monday in a San Joaquin League game on the road.

Isabel Gomez scored a team-high 22 points to go with eight rebounds for Sage Hill (17-9, 5-2). Kat Righeimer added 11 points and eight rebounds, and Annabelle Spotts chipped in with 11 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
