High School Roundup: Edison boys’ basketball clinches at least a share of Surf League crown

The Edison High School boys’ basketball team defeated Newport Harbor 62-57 at home on Tuesday, earning at least a share of the Surf League title.

Trey Wilborn scored 26 points to lead Edison (23-4, 5-0), ranked No. 2 in the CIF Southern Section Division 2A poll. Tyler Hampton added 18 points and nine rebounds.

The Chargers can clinch the outright title with a home win over Los Alamitos (20-6, 4-1) on Thursday.

Newport Harbor (15-11, 1-4) closes out league with a home game against Laguna Beach on Thursday.

Fountain Valley 70, Corona del Mar 61: The Barons won their fourth straight game in a Wave League contest Tuesday at Fountain Valley High School.

Fountain Valley improved to 11-8 overall and 4-1 in league.

CdM, ranked No. 10 in Division 3AA, is now 19-6 overall, 2-3 in league.

Marina 79, Huntington Beach 65: Marina improved to 18-9 overall and 4-1 in the Wave League with Tuesday’s road victory.

Eric Hodgkins had 17 points to pace Marina. Robert Aguirre and Kenji Duremdes each had 16 points, Kylle Magdangal added 14 points, and Bohdi Armstrong chipped in with 12 points.

The Vikings, ranked No. 14 in Division 2AA, remain tied for first in league with Fountain Valley. They close out league play by hosting Corona del Mar on Thursday.

Huntington Beach (6-20, 0-5) plays at Fountain Valley on Thursday.

Los Alamitos 63, Laguna Beach 41: The Breakers fell to 11-13 overall and 0-5 in the Surf League after Tuesday’s loss at Los Alamitos High.

Max Burchi scored 12 points and Jackson Sirianni added 11 points for Laguna Beach.

La Quinta 56, Los Amigos 38: The Lobos’ losing streak reached 11 games on Tuesday in a Garden Grove League game on the road.

Los Amigos is now 2-17 overall and 0-9 in league.

Newport Christian 65, Tarbut V’Torah 56: The Seahawks (13-3, 7-0) earned a road victory in Express League play on Tuesday.

Ocean View 57, Katella 45: Chico Lopez scored 23 points for the Seahawks in Tuesday’s Golden West League game on the road.

Peyton Guerrero added 13 points for Ocean View (16-8, 6-2), which hosts first-place Garden Grove (17-7, 9-0) on Thursday.

Pacifica Christian Orange County 90, Fairmont 48: Salim Semaan had 17 points and seven rebounds for the Tritons in Tuesday’s San Joaquin League game at home.

Parker Strauss added 15 points and Dylan Godfrey scored 13 points for Pacifica Christian (13-12, 3-3).

The Tritons, ranked No. 10 in Division 2A, close out league play with two games against St. Margaret’s, starting Thursday at home.

Sage Hill 78, Rowland Heights Southlands Christian 26: The Lightning improved to 13-10 overall and 4-2 in the Academy League after Tuesday’s home victory.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Westminster La Quinta 25, Los Amigos 17: Kaitlyn Mai had nine points and four steals, and Kaeli Vu added eight points and three steals for the Aztecs in the defensive struggle of a Garden Grove League game at La Quinta High on Tuesday night.

Los Amigos (6-18, 4-5), which is in third in the league, finishes out the regular season at Rancho Alamitos (5-15, 3-6) on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Capistrano Valley Christian 72, Newport Christian 36: The Seahawks dropped to 8-6 overall and 3-3 in the Academy League following Tuesday’s result on the road.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Edison 16, Fountain Valley 1: The co-league champion Chargers wrapped up Wave League play with a win Tuesday night at Edison High, their first home game on campus in program history thanks to their new pool.

Bella Schulze and Lily Worley each scored four goals for Edison (11-12, 5-1), which is tied for first in the Division 2 poll.

Nicole Waldschmidt scored the lone goal for Fountain Valley (14-12, 1-5).

Huntington Beach 25, Marina 6: The Oilers finished as co-Wave League champions after Tuesday’s home win.

Gaby Zaretskiy had 11 goals for Huntington Beach (12-10, 5-1). Hana Homma scored seven goals.

Marina finished 8-17 overall, and 1-5 in league.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Newport Harbor 3, Laguna Beach 0: The Sailors stayed alive in the Wave League race with Tuesday’s shutout victory on the road.

Newport Harbor (8-4-4, 3-1-1) needs a win at home against Marina (4-13-2, 2-3) on Thursday, as well as a Huntington Beach (13-2-5, 4-0-1) loss to Laguna Beach (4-11, 0-5) to earn a share of the league crown.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Westminster 2, Ocean View 0: The Seahawks were blanked in Tuesday’s key Golden West League match at Ocean View High.

Ocean View (9-5-1, 5-2-1 in league) remained in second place in league, while Westminster (7-1-1 in league) clinched a share of the league title.

Ocean View plays at Garden Grove on Thursday.
