High School Roundup: Pacifica Christian boys’ volleyball wins Santiago Classic

The Pacifica Christian Orange County High School boys’ volleyball team defeated host Corona Santiago 25-22, 25-19 on Saturday in the championship match of the Santiago Classic.

The Tritons (10-4) went 5-1 across the two-day tournament. Pacifica Christian coach Tim Maruyama said junior Danny Dillon was key in serve receive.

Pacifica Christian came into the week ranked No. 3 in the CIF Southern Section Division 4 poll.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Corona del Mar 12, Edison 6: Niels Hoffmann, Jack Cross and Max Krykunenko each won twice in singles for the Sea Kings in Thursday’s Sunset Conference crossover match at CdM.

Logan Friedman and Jack Knox won once at No. 1 doubles for the Sea Kings (7-1), who host Laguna Beach on Tuesday.

Edison (3-5) plays at Huntington Beach on Tuesday.

Laguna Beach 12, Huntington Beach 6: Ian MacLaughlin and Peter Durand both swept in singles for the Breakers in Thursday’s Sunset Conference crossover match at Laguna Beach High.

The Breakers improved to 5-2.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Corona del Mar 17, Los Alamitos 8: Abby Grace scored nine goals for the Sea Kings in Thursday’s Sunset League opener at Corona del Mar High.

Senior goalkeeper Ellie Spotts had 10 saves, an interception and two ground balls for CdM (6-2).

The Sea Kings host JSerra in a nonleague match Tuesday.
